The Ripon Club was founded in 1884, by stalwarts such as Sir Phirozeshah Mervanji Mehta, Jamshedji Tata and Sir Dinshaw Manackjee Petit.
The Ripon Club, located on the 3rd & 4th floors of N.M. Wadia Buidling at M.G. Road, Fort, Mumbai – India, is a quaint, “Ole English-style” establishment for professionals such as Lawyers, Businessmen and Chartered Accountants to meet and enjoy their lunch. Of course, Parsi Zoroastrians from all professions are members of this beautiful club.
Famous for its Mutton Dhansak Buffet on Wednesday afternoons, the club is a wonderful place for one and all to enjoy. Apart from Parsi Zoroastrians, the food is loved by visitors of all communities and one can usually experience more non-Zoroastrian Parsis on Wednesdays… thanks to the wonderful catering of Mr. Tehmtan Dumasia of “K” Caterers.
Apart from Dhansak on Wednesdays, the Ripon Club offers a daily fixed and ala carte menu, with wonderful mouth-watering dishes. The recent introduction of a special menu that includes tasty continental dishes on a daily basis (except Wednesdays), the Ripon Club is the place to be if you whether you want to relax after a wonderful meal or entertain your guests and business associates.
But time still stands still in this bustling club. The furniture from days gone by is evidence of this fact. Visitors to the club will notice old (and even young!) Parsi Bawajis resting on the “Easy Chairs” after their Dhansak on Wednesdays.
The club also boasts a billiards and card room on the 4th floor, apart from a beautiful view of the Mumbai University and Rajabai Tower!
Parsi Zoroastrians above the age of 18 years, irrespective of their gender, are more than welcome to become members of this one time male dominated Ripon Club and keep this wonderful traditional, quaint and antique place alive! Those interested may either contact the Ripon Club’s office or download the membership form and submit it to the Secretary. Of course, identifying a member who can propose and second your membership will speed up your membership process.
